The University of Alabama School of Music will present the Concerto and Aria Competition winners with UA’s Huxford Symphony Orchestra in concert on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Moody Music Concert Hall on campus.
University of Alabama American Studies assistant professor and director of the African-American Studies program, Dr. Amilcar Shabazz, has recently published a new book, “Advancing Democracy: African Americans and the Struggle for Access and Equity in Higher Education in Texas” (University of North Carolina Press, 2004).
“Elegies & Vacations,” a new book of poetry by Dr. Hank Lazer, has been described as an ambitious attempt to “recreate the heart of poetry itself.” This collection of poems explores the relationships of the living and the dead. The book contains 11 poems, each different from the next, addressing emotionally charged issues ranging from the loss of a beloved family member to the sometimes trying ritual of the family vacation.
The University of Alabama journalism department will present the seventh annual Clarence Cason Awards for Nonfiction Writing on Thursday, March 18.
One of classical music’s most talented young performing artists, Sarah Chang, will join the Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) in a concert presented by The University of Alabama College of Arts and Sciences School of Music under the direction of ASO’s Richard Westerfield, on Sunday, March 14, in the Moody Music Concert Hall on the UA campus at 3 p.m.
Col. Robert L. Gambrell Jr., commander of Air Force ROTC (AFROTC) Detachment 10 at The University of Alabama, has announced two AFROTC in-college scholarship recipients.
The University of Alabama chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society was recently awarded a “Make a Difference Day” grant of $500 to go toward school supplies for the West Alabama Head Start program. The money was given by the society’s international chapter.
The University of Alabama Sarah Moody Gallery of Art will host the Farley Moody Galbraith Endowed Exhibition featuring work by New York artist Chakaia Booker, opening Friday, March 12, with a reception from 6-8 p.m. at the Gallery in 103 Garland Hall on campus.
George Saunders and Mary Gaitskill will read selections from their latest works at 7:30 p.m. on March 4, in 205 Smith Hall on the campus of The University of Alabama as part of the Bankhead Visiting Writers Series.
The University of Alabama’s School of Music is proud to welcome Kronos Quartet to the UA campus. The group is the last Celebrity Series concert of the 2003-04 season. They will perform on Tuesday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Moody Music Building.
