O’Reilly Auto Parts Teams with UA’s Project R.O.S.E.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – O’Reilly Auto Parts and the University of Alabama-sponsored Project R.O.S.E. (Recycled Oil Saves Energy) are teaming to help recycle used motor oil. All O’Reilly Auto Parts stores in Alabama, and throughout the Southeast, accept used motor oil from do-it-yourself oil changers.

“We are pleased to have O’Reilly Auto Parts Stores’ participation in our network recycling locations in Alabama,” said Charlotte Nix, assistant coordinator of Project R.O.S.E. “Used motor oil can cause great damage to the environment, as well as wildlife and human health, if improperly disposed. We appreciate O’Reilly Auto Parts’ commitment to a clean environment.”

In addition to O’Reilly Auto Parts, Project R.O.S.E. coordinates with more than 500 volunteer used motor oil collection sites throughout the state with at least one site in each county. A list of collection sites can be located at the Project R.O.S.E. Web site (http://prose.eng.ua.edu/) or by calling 1-800-CLEANUP.

Project R.O.S.E., housed in UA’s chemical engineering department, is one of the first volunteer used motor oil public outreach and education programs in the United States and is funded by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs’ Science, Technology, and Energy Division. “Part of being a good corporate citizen is participating in projects that make a difference within the markets we operate. We are extremely proud to be a part of the Project R.O.S.E. initiative throughout Alabama. Protecting our environment for generations to come is very important to our company, and we have numerous recycling programs that are free to the public,” stated Ron Byerly, vice president of advertising and marketing for O’Reilly Auto Parts.

O’Reilly Automotive Inc. first opened in 1957 in Springfield, Mo. Today, O’Reilly Auto Parts stores are among the top auto parts stores in the country with more than 1,000 stores in 17 states.

In 1837, UA became the first university in the state to offer engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation to do so. Today, the College of Engineering, with about 1,900 students and more than 90 faculty, is one of the three oldest continuously operating engineering programs in the country and has been fully accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the 1930s.
