UA Professor to Lecture on Russia and Modern World

The University of Alabama’s department of modern languages and classics invites the public to hear Dr. Andrew M. Drozd, associate professor of Russian at UA, present the first lecture of a three-part series titled “Russia and the Making of the Modern World” at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, in 205 Gorgas Library.

UA Seeks Subjects for Research Study on Hearing

Adult volunteers 19 years or older are needed for a research study on hearing conducted by The University of Alabama’s department of communicative disorders.

UA’s Hudson Strode Program to Host Film Series at Bama Theatre

The Hudson Strode program in Renaissance Studies in the English department of The University of Alabama will kick off a monthly Shakespeare on Film series at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15 at the Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa. The series, which will continue through April, features a range of films with Shakespearian themes. It will include the popular, contemporary film “Ten Things I Hate about You” as well as such classics as”West Side Story” and lesser-known but equally relevant works including ” The Bad Sleep Well.”

UA’s Week of Welcome for New Students Includes Convocation, Service

The University of Alabama’s Week of Welcome, opening the fall semester for students, will feature a kick-off party Sunday, Aug. 17; a day of service and a new-student convocation on Tuesday, Aug. 19; and the Get on Board day Thursday, Aug. 28.

MSNBC Host Highlights Blackburn Institute’s 20th Anniversary Symposium

Former U.S. Rep. Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and University of Alabama alumnus, will speak at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, in the Moody Music Building Concert Hall on the UA campus. The event, which is free and open to the public, will highlight the 20th anniversary symposium of UA’s Blackburn Institute. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

UA Honors Freshmen Participate in Three Service Projects

More than 250 University of Alabama Honors College freshmen and upper-class leaders will begin the fall semester with community service projects through Alabama Action, Outdoor Action and Black Belt Action. The programs will run through Friday, Aug. 15, in the West Alabama community.

UA Fulbright Scholars to Share Overseas Experiences, Application Tips

Recent Fulbright Scholarship winners from The University of Alabama will participate in a discussion panel to share their experiences and offer scholarship application tips at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at the Center for Community-Based Partnerships. The event is at 900 Anna Ave. behind Arby’s on University Boulevard.

Tri Delta at UA Sets Fundraising Record for Children’s Hospital

The University of Alabama’s Delta Mu chapter of the Delta Delta Delta national sorority has been recognized as this year’s top fundraiser for Tri Delta’s philanthropic partner, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. During the 2013-2014 fundraising campaign, Delta Mu raised $204,414.79 for St. Jude, making it the first chapter to donate more than $200,000 in a single year. The contribution was part of some $6.1 million raised this year by Tri Delta chapters nationwide.

UA Students Participate in Co-op Program in Summer 2014

More than 180 University of Alabama students during the summer 2014 semester are receiving a hands-on educational experience at more than 60 companies and organizations through UA’s Cooperative Education Program. In the Cooperative Education Program, students alternate periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. This program offers work related to the academic major or career interests of each student. The experience enhances the students’ employment prospects after graduation.

Orlando Magic Official to Speak at Foster Youth Program Luncheon at UA

Lucas Boyce, director of business development and legislative affairs for the Orlando Magic basketball team, will speak to participants of the nsoro College Bound Pre-Collegiate Program at The University of Alabama at noon Friday, June 20, in 205 Gorgas Library.
