Orlando Magic Official to Speak at Foster Youth Program Luncheon at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Lucas Boyce, director of business development and legislative affairs for the Orlando Magic basketball team, will speak to participants of the nsoro College Bound Pre-Collegiate Program at The University of Alabama at noon Friday, June 20, in 205 Gorgas Library.

Media are invited to cover the speech, which will be during the graduation luncheon for the College Bound program.

The College Bound Pre-Collegiate Program is a weeklong residential pre-collegiate experience that introduces high school age foster youth to college. Now in its fourth year, the program is a collaboration between the nsoro Foundation and The University of Alabama. The Alabama REACH office is the recognized University partner for the program.

The 2014 program, which began on Sunday, June 15, has 27 student participants. During the week, nsoro College Bound students will have the opportunity to participate in academic talks and class observation and take a practice ACT exam.

Boyce will speak about his own personal experience with the child welfare system. With the Magic, Boyce’s responsibilities include developing a sports and entertainment district in downtown Orlando.

He also oversees the company’s efforts in statewide legislative and government affairs. Before working for the Magic, Boyce served at the White House in the Office of Political Affairs, where he managed political activity and key races across the Plains-Southwest region of the United States.
