March ushers in the beginning of spring and with it, some great events at The University of Alabama and around town!

On Campus 

L’elisir d’amore (The Elixir of Love) 

March 1, 7:30 p.m. and March 3, 3 p.m., Bryant-Jordan Hall 

This exciting and comedic opera tells the story of a misguided man in love who slips his beloved a faulty love potion. Sung in Italian with projected English supertitles, you won’t want to miss this performance

International Women’s Day Lunch and Learn 

March 5, noon-1 p.m., UA Student Center Forum 3700 

Kick off Women’s History Month with an eye-opening lunch and learn event. Lunch will be provided at this Q&A-style roundtable event featuring women from all over the globe telling their stories. 

Charlas Spanish Conversation Hour 

Thursday evenings, 7:30 p.m., Lawn chairs outside of B.B. Comer 

Join Spanish Club members to get real-world experience in practicing Spanish vocabulary. This event is for all levels of Spanish.

Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Conference 

March 26, Bryant Conference Center 

This prestigious event allows undergraduates to highlight and showcase their research or creative pursuits. In addition to exhibiting their work, the conference also allows students to gain public speaking experience, network with their professors and fellow colleagues and compete for cash prizes. 

The Power of Connections: Networking 101 

March 4, 4-5 p.m., 104B Reese Phifer Hall 

Understanding the art of networking is an important tool to use in your professional career. Join professionals to learn about and practice your networking skills with the College of Communication and Information Sciences. 

Salary Negotiation Workshop 

Matrch 5, 4 and 5 p.m., 3400 UA Student Center 

After the spring career fairs, you may need to learn or brush up on your salary negotiation skills. This workshop provided by the Career Center helps students evaluate job offers and develop a strategic approach to get the most out of salary negotiation! Register now on Handshake

Artist Lecture from Sharon Butler 

March 20, 3 p.m., Camellia Room, Gorgas Library 

View many of Butler’s contemporary pieces, which she defines as “new casualism” all through the month of March in the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art. The artist will be presenting a special lecture regarding her process and inspiration, with a reception for the artist to follow.  

Sports

Around Town 

The Northport Bunny Trail

March 1-31, Downtown Northport

Stroll along historic downtown Northport to view more than 75 giant eggs colorfully decorated by local businesses and organizations to celebrate the spring season and Easter at this free community event. Special events on the trail include the grand opening March 2, a Pet EGG-extravaganza March 17, and an Easter egg hunt on the trail March 24.

38th Annual Sakura Festival 

March 23, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Mildred Westervelt Warner Transportation Museum 

This festival celebrates the ties Tuscaloosa has with its sister city, Narashino, Japan, and is held in honor of Sakura, or cherry blossoms. The theme of this year’s festival, preserve, “reminds us of the value of each moment, while the return of spring awakens us to fresh possibilities in life.”

March 23, Sokol Park, Buddy Powell Pavilion 

Whether you’re a novice or seasoned racer, this course has something for everyone. Featuring 20+ obstacles, including a Marine regulation O-course, the Tuscaloosa Gauntlet is sure to pose a challenge for every skill level! Sign up here
