Endangered Blood Quartet to Perform as Part of UA’s Sonic Frontiers Series

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —The experimental jazz ensemble Endangered Blood Quartet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, at the Ferguson Center Theatre on The University of Alabama campus.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert is part of UA’s Sonic Frontiers series, which is designed to further artistic diversity on campus, said series organizer Dr. Andrew Raffo Dewar, assistant professor in New College and the School of Music.

Based in New York, Endangered Blood consists of internationally acclaimed musicians Chris Speed and Oscar Noriega (saxophones), Trevor Dunn (bass) and Jim Black (drums). The musicians are responsible for some of the most influential experimental jazz in the last few years.

The final Sonic Frontiers concert will feature Nii Noi Nortey, the acclaimed saxophonist and saxophone inventor from Accra, Ghana, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, at the Ferguson Center Theatre. Joining the saxophonist will be Dewar on saxophone and Japanese-American percussionist Tatsuya Nakatani.

In addition, a public screening of a film about Nii Noi Nortey — “Accra Trane Station: The Music and Art of Nii Noi Nortey” — will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 23, in 132 Lloyd Hall.
