Fall in ‘Luv’ at UA’s Allen Bales Theatre Nov. 28-Dec. 3

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama department of theatre and dance presents “Luv,” Nov. 28 – Dec. 3 in the Allen Bales Theatre on Stadium Drive in the UA Theatre District.

“Luv” was nominated for a Tony Award for best play when it premiered in 1965 and ran for an unheard of two years on Broadway with 901 performances, astounding for the time. The play was made into a film of the same name starring Jack Lemmon, Peter Falk and Elaine May.

The main character, Harry, a miserable and lonely man, believes his only salvation from mediocrity is the peace that will come when he belly flops off a bridge into the icy cold water below. That is, until his old friend Milt suddenly appears. In trying to rid himself of his wife, Milt devises a plan to get her and Harry together in the hopes that Milt can marry his mistress.

Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the box office in Rowand-Johnson Hall 1-5 p.m., or by calling 205/348-3400.

The department of theatre and dance is housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest public liberal arts college in the state. Students from the college have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships and memberships on the “USA Today” Academic All American Team.
