UA Establishes ‘SummerTide’ Theatre at Gulf Shores with Private Gift
This summer, when the sun sets on the Gulf Coast, residents and visitors will be able to spend the evening entertained by live theatre established by The University of Alabama with funding from Florida businessman and UA alumnus Herbert Clark West Jr. of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and additional support from the George Meyer Foundation of Gulf Shores and The University of Alabama Alumni Association.

UA Computer Science Department Receives New Grant
The University of Alabama College of Engineering computer science department was recently awarded the first Active and Collaborative Learning Grant. The grant, given by the University, is worth $11,000, and it will be used to modify the Introduction to Computer Programming Laboratory course into more of a problem-solving experience.
Burgio Named UA Distinguished Research Professor
The University of Alabama Board of Trustees has conferred the highest honor it gives to a faculty member to Dr. Louis D. Burgio, professor of psychology, director of UA’s Applied Gerontology Program and co-director of the Center for Mental Health and Aging. Burgio has been named University of Alabama Distinguished Research Professor by the board.
