The University of Alabama honored its top students of 2003-2004 for their academic achievement and leadership Friday, April 16, during the Tappings and Awards Ceremony on the Mound, the highlight of UA’s annual Honors Week, April 12-16.
World’s Most Endangered Animals Largely Ignored, According to ‘BioScience’ Article Co-Authored by UA Scientist
Although nearly half of all the recorded extinctions of animal species during the past 500 years are nonmarine mollusks, such as freshwater clams and snails, their decline is largely ignored by the public and even most biologists, according to an article co-authored by a University of Alabama biologist and published in the latest issue of BioScience.

UA Student Named National Goldwater Scholar
University of Alabama student Jason M. Spruell of Dothan recently was awarded a Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. Spruell is the only student from an Alabama institution to receive one of the 310 scholarships awarded for the 2004-05 academic year to undergraduate sophomores and juniors from across the United States.

Relay for Life, Luminary Ceremony Set For April 16 at UA
The University of Alabama will host the annual Relay for Life fund-raiser sponsored by the American Cancer Society on Friday, April 16, beginning at 5:30 p.m. and ending at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, April 17, at the UA quad.
