The University of Alabama’s department of modern languages and classics invites the public to hear Dr. Andrew M. Drozd, associate professor of Russian at UA, present the first lecture of a three-part series titled “Russia and the Making of the Modern World” at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, in 205 Gorgas Library.

Why Football Matters: Author to Present Lecture at UA
Does football matter? It’s a question author and acclaimed essayist Dr. Mark Edmundson will try to answer as he discusses his newest book, “Why Football Matters: My Education in the Game,” in a lecture Friday, Sept. 19 at 3 p.m. on The University of Alabama campus. The lecture will be held in the Ferguson Center Theater and is free and open to the public.
Dean’s List Students Named for UA Summer 2014 Term
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A total of 404 students enrolled during the 2014 summer semester at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean’s List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the President’s List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s). The UA Dean’s and President’s lists recognizes full-time undergraduate students.

Reginald D. Hyde, former deputy undersecretary of defense for intelligence and security in the U.S. Department of Defense, has been named executive director of the Cyber Institute at The University of Alabama.
