UA’s Ferguson Center Seeks Nominations for Penny Allen Award

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s Ferguson Student Center is accepting applications for the Penny Allen Award.

The award recognizes one student and one nonstudent (faculty, staff or administrative personnel) who have made a significant contribution to student life at UA.

The  UA School of Social Work and the Alabama Union Board of Governors established the award on campus in honor of the late Sara Bell Penrod Allen (Penny Allen). Allen was a former chairperson of the undergraduate program in the School of Social Work.

The award committee seeks assistance in obtaining nominations. If you know of an individual you wish to nominate, access the application form at ferguson.ua.edu to provide a brief narrative describing how this person has exemplified the criteria listed below.

The criteria, in order of importance, are:

1. Service and dedication to students

2. Leadership activities

3. Professional and other activities

4. Lack of past recognition

5. Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

6. Student must be an incoming junior or senior

The nominations should be submitted online at http://ferguson.ua.edu/pennyallenaward.cfm no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6.
