Because of predictions of rain for Monday, Oct. 26, and Tuesday, Oct. 27, The University of Alabama Panhellenic Association is canceling Trick or Treat on Sorority Row on Monday night. The event will not be rescheduled.
A composition by Tyler Grant, a student in The University of Alabama’s School of Music, has been selected to be showcased at Carnegie Hall in New York City in April. “Panoramic Landscapes” will be performed by the Scarsdale, New York, High School wind ensemble under the direction of Jason Noble. It is Grant’s first work to be played at Carnegie Hall.
A University of Alabama professor was recognized as a Fellow of the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board, the lead society for accreditation of degree programs in computer science, information systems, software engineering and information technology. Dr. David Cordes, head of the department of computer science and director of the Freshman Engineering Program, received the award at the annual meeting of the Computer Accreditation Commission of ABET in July.

Birmingham artist Carolyn Sherer will be bringing her “Family Matters” exhibit to The University of Alabama’s Ferguson Center Art Gallery on Oct. 20. The exhibit will feature 12 images of self-identified LGBTQ youth as well as a narrative that accompanies each photo that details the subject’s perceptions on family acceptance.
“Breaking Barriers with Bilingual TV: The Alabama TV Story” will take place at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12 in Gorgas Library room 205 on The University of Alabama campus. The event is free and open to the public.

The University of Alabama’s Panhellenic Association will host its annual Sorority Row Trick-or-Treat from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26. Children from the Tuscaloosa area ages 12 and younger are invited to dress up in Halloween costumes without masks and visit the lawns of the campus sorority houses on Magnolia and Colonial drives for candy and activities. Tutwiler and Harris residence halls will also host trick-or-treaters.
