UA Faculty Members Named SEC Academic Leadership Development Fellows

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Four faculty members at The University of Alabama were selected as 2015 – 2016 Academic Leadership Development Program fellows by the Southeastern Conference.

The UA fellows – Dr. Melondie Reeves Carter, assistant dean of undergraduate programs, Capstone College of Nursing; Dr. Matthew Holt, head of the UA department of economics, finance and legal studies;  Dr. Tricia McElroy, associate dean of humanities and fine arts, UA College of Arts and Sciences; and Dr. Javonda Williams, assistant dean for education programs and student services, UA School of Social Work – are among 50 SEC university faculty and administrators selected for the distinction this year.

The professional development program seeks to identify, prepare and advance academic leaders for roles within SEC institutions and beyond. It has two components: a university-level development program designed by each institution for its own participants and two SEC-wide workshops held on specified campuses for all program participants.

The workshops were earlier in October at the University of Arkansas and Feb. 24-26, 2016 at the University of Mississippi.

“The individuals selected by their SEC universities to participate in the SEC Academic Leadership Development Program represent the future of higher education administration,” said Torie Johnson, SECU executive director.

Since its creation in 2008, more than 270 faculty and academic administrators have completed the SEC ALDP and program alumni have become deans and provosts, among other senior-level positions, at universities around the SEC and the United States.

The SEC Academic Leadership Development Program is a part of SECU, the academic initiative of the SEC. SECU actively highlights the endeavors and achievements of the students and faculty of the conference’s 14 member universities.
