Enrollment Process Open for Capstone Learning Academy

University of Alabama employees and students can begin enrolling their children in the Capstone Learning Academy that is set to open in September at the former Northington Elementary School.

Through a collaboration with KinderCare Education at Work, the program will welcome 250 children in its inaugural class in September. The Capstone Learning Academy will serve families looking for full-time child care services.

“The need for child care services has been one of the top requests from faculty, staff and students, so this benefit will make an immediate valuable impact to our campus community,” said Cheryl Mowdy, UA’s interim vice president for finance and operations. “KinderCare was chosen to manage and operate the Capstone Learning Academy based on its philosophy to inspire a love of learning in children at an early age, and early childhood education curriculum that focuses on early academics, physical activity and social emotional learning to nurture healthy bodies, happy hearts and growing minds.”

In addition to the early childhood education curriculum, Capstone Learning Academy tuition includes breakfast, lunch and snacks for all children except for infants, and access to fun indoor and covered outdoor playgrounds.

Faculty and staff, and students enrolled in a minimum of 12 undergraduate hours or nine graduate hours have priority for enrolling their child or children. A 10% discount is applied to the rate of each additional child.

Tuition rates for the 2024-2025 school year are:

  • Faculty/Staff – $910 per month
  • Students – $672 per month

To help secure a spot for your child or children, a non-refundable enrollment fee of $200 per faculty/staff dependent and $100 per student dependent is due at the time of registration. The maximum enrollment fee for a family is $250.

Enrollment will be on a first come, first served basis. Children will be placed on a waitlist once the 250 spots are filled.

Children in the Tuscaloosa community may be accepted if spots allow after the children of UA employees and students are served first.
