Registration Opens for UA Army ROTC Golf Fundraiser

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama – The University of Alabama Army ROTC program is accepting reservations for its first “Land of the Tee, Home of the Brave” golf tournament.

The four-person scramble will be at Ol’ Colony Golf Course on Thursday, March 2. Ninety percent of monies raised at the event will be allocated to the UA Corps of Cadets to help fund commissioning ceremonies at the end of each semester. The other 10 percent will be allocated to the Tuscaloosa Homeless Veterans Association.

“Those who participate in the day’s festivities will be directly supporting the Crimson Tide Battalion, whose cadets who will serve as leaders in the active duty, National Guard, or Reserves,” Sandlin said. “Our cadets have a significant presence and impact in the Tuscaloosa community; our cadets volunteer at food banks and kitchens, the Miracle League Baseball Team in Northport and serve as Spanish tutors for immigrants in the Tuscaloosa community.”

A barbecue lunch, light refreshments, a bucket of range balls and putting green fees are included in registration. Raffle prizes will be awarded before the shotgun start at 1 p.m. The course is reserved for the entire day.

The UA Army ROTC commissioned seven 2nd lieutenants as active duty, National Guard or Army Reserves in December. Seventeen UA cadets were commissioned in May 2016., and staff members expect to commission 19 in May.

UA’s Army ROTC program has been responsible for producing more than 7,500 officers, 42 general officers, six governors of Alabama, 25 judges and numerous CEOs and presidents of major companies.

The mission of U.S. Army Cadet Command is to commission the future officer leadership of the U.S. Army and motivate young people to be better citizens. Cadet Command does this through senior and junior ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps) programs across the country.
