UA Fan Day set for Aug. 8

…UA announced that its annual football Fan Day will be Aug. 8. This includes an open two-hour practice at Bryant-Denny Stadium…No posed photographs will be permitted. Fans seeking autographs will enter the field through Gate 46. Concession items will be available at half off regular game-day prices. UA merchandise will be on sale as well. In the event of rain, the autograph session will be moved to the football team’s indoor practice facility next to Coleman Coliseum. UA expects the campus area to be congested with traffic and pedestrians, particularly east of the stadium, with students returning to start the fall semester. Parking will be available at the UA Softball Complex and tennis facility, the Student Recreation Center and other perimeter lots. Parking will also be available in lots at Ten Hoor, the Moody Music Building and the UA soccer stadium. There will be no on-campus accommodations for recreational vehicles. UA asks that RVs be parked at the Northington Lot near University Mall. …

… Resident Sloss artists Joe McCreary, the metal arts education coordinator and a University of Alabama master of fine arts student…offer hands-on instruction and coordinate community outreach…Each summer, McCreary directs the youth apprentice program that teaches high school students about casting, fabrication and forging techniques. During the course of the eight-week program, students get hands-on instruction and are paid to create items for Sloss. There are six artists working with the youth apprentice program this summer. The program runs through today and will be followed by a public exhibit in October at the Vulcan Gallery in Birmingham. …
