TUSCALOOSA – Birmingham artist Carolyn Sherer will be bringing her “Family Matters” exhibit to The University of Alabama’s Ferguson Center Art Gallery starting on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.

The exhibit will feature 12 images of self-identified LGBTQ youth as well as a narrative that accompanies each photo that details the subject’s perceptions on family acceptance.
“’Family Matters’ is aimed at initiating a conversation about social change and family acceptance for LGBTQ youth,” said Kirk Walter, assistant director of UA’s Office of Student Involvement and Leadership.
The exhibit is a collaboration between the artist and the Magic City Acceptance Program to provide broader, more inclusive services to the LGBTQ community. It will be at the Ferguson Center Art Gallery as part of a tour of the state of Alabama that will continue through 2017.
