Former SEC Commissioner Mike Slive to speak at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –Former Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive will speak at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27,  in Graves Hall 118 on The University of Alabama campus. The talk is free and open to the public.

Slive will discuss his tenure as SEC commissioner, specifically addressing the evolving role of the media during his time. Lars Anderson, senior writer for Bleacher Report and UA journalism instructor, will host a question-and-answer session with Slive. The event is sponsored by the Alabama Program in Sports Communication in UA’s College of Communication and Information Sciences.

“APSC is honored and excited to host Mike Slive, one of the true leaders of college sports,” said Dr. Andrew Billings, APSC director and Ronald Reagan chair of broadcasting. “He led and expanded the conference in terms of members, name recognition and media footprint. The SEC is now the premier conference within a very competitive media landscape, and that is in no small part due to the leadership of Mike Slive.”

The UA College of Communication and Information Sciences is among the largest and most prestigious communication colleges in the nation. The College consistently is ranked among the top 10 in number of doctoral degrees awarded and in many of its research programs.
