UA Social Work Alumna to Deliver Honors Day Convocation

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Latrelle Porter, executive director of Hospice of West Alabama, will deliver The University of Alabama School of Social Work’s Honors Day Convocation Friday, April 3 in room 120 of Farrah Hall.

Porter, who earned her bachelor’s degree in social work at UA, is the featured speaker for the school’s convocation to honor outstanding students. Porter began her career with Hospice of West Alabama in March 1997.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.

Prior to her current position, Porter served as director of social services for Estes North Nursing Home.

She holds leadership positions in several professional organizations, including the Alabama Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s board of directors, where she serves as a member of the executive committee, and the West Alabama Regional Commission’s Ombudsman Advisory Council, where she serves as president.

In 2009, Porter received the Defining Woman of the Year Award from the Women in Business Council. This award recognizes a woman in her profession for more than five years who has numerous professional accomplishments and a balance in her professional and personal life.
