
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Victoria Raveis, a social gerontologist and medical sociologist, will present “Emergency Preparedness: When Natural Disasters Strike,” at noon Monday in room 104 of Little Hall on The University of Alabama campus.
Raveis’ lecture is part of the School of Social Work’s Colloquium Series that brings speakers to campus to share expertise with UA faculty, staff, students and guests.
The lecture is free and open to the University community and the general public. Social work continuing education units will be available.
An experienced health services researcher, Raveis serves as research professor and director of the Psychosocial Research Unit on Health, Aging and the Community at the New York University Colleges of Dentistry and Nursing. Raveis is an authority on family-focused disease management for vulnerable and medically under-served communities.
Raveis earned an master’s in sociology from Boston College, a master’s of philosophy degree in Sociology, and a doctorate in sociology from Columbia University.
