UA-housed APR Hosts Annual Foodie Fundraisers

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Board of the Friends of WUAL, which supports University of Alabama-housed Alabama Public Radio, is hosting two fundraisers in February that will delight the palates of food lovers in Tuscaloosa.

The Toast of the Tour and Silent Auction Thursday, Feb. 20, from 5:30-7:30 pm at V & W Supply, 712 20th Ave. in downtown Tuscaloosa, will kick off the annual fundraiser of the Board of the Friends of WUAL.

Heavy hor d’oeuvres will be provided by FIVE-Bar and selections of wine and beer by Spirits Wine Cellar and Druid City Brewing Co. Tickets are $30 and are available at Manna Grocery and Deli, 2312 McFarland Blvd. East; Spirits Wine Cellar in Essex Square in Northport and at the Shoppes of Lake Tuscaloosa; V & W Supply, 712 20th Ave.; and WUAL/Alabama Public Radio, 166 Phifer Annex, University Blvd. at Colonial Drive.

Kitchens of Consequence, a tour and tasting featuring six private Tuscaloosa kitchens and treats from area caterers, will be held Saturday, Feb. 22, from 1-4 p.m. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit WUAL/Alabama Public Radio. The featured homes are located in The Townes, Barnes Settlement Road, The Downs, The Highlands and Winsor Drive.

On the tour this year are the homes of Stacy and Seth Panitch, 5472 Park Ave. (The Townes), catered by Mary’s Cakes and Pastries; Emily and Justin Williams, 5511 Courtney Ave. (The Townes), catered by FIG Restaurant; Tammy and David Smith, 6240 Barnes Settlement Road, catered by Catering by Tammy Smith; Anne and Brock Jones, 25 Patton Place (The Highlands), catered by Snap Decisions; Carolyn Land Williams, 18 The Downs, catered by Hotel Capstone; Lauren Wilson Carr, 39 Windsor Drive, catered by Crimson Catering.

Music will be provided at many of the homes. Performers will include Robert Morgan, Cal Wilson, Paul Whitehurst, Rick Lee and Mary Beth Cavert.

Tickets for Kitchens of Consequence are $25 and are available at Manna Grocery and Deli, 2312 McFarland Blvd. East; Spirits Wine Cellar in Essex Square in Northport and at the Shoppes of Lake Tuscaloosa; V & W Supply, 712 20th Ave.; and WUAL/Alabama Public Radio, 166 Phifer Annex, University Blvd. at Colonial Drive.

Tickets for Kitchens of Consequence also will be available at each home on the day of the event.
