TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Students and alumni from The University of Alabama and Louisiana State University will come together to have a positive impact in the New Orleans community at the Allstate BCS National Championship Service Project on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012.
Representatives of the two universities will work to improve the facilities of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Louisiana through painting, upkeep of the baseball fields and beautification of surrounding neighborhoods. The Boys and Girls Clubs facilities are located at 1140 S. Broad St. in New Orleans.
The service project will be from 1-5 p.m., Jan. 8, with check-in and lunch beginning at noon.
UA participants must pre-register online at www.volunteer.ua.edu by clicking the Allstate BCS National Championship Service Project icon. Space is limited to 200 volunteers from each university.
In addition, UA students who will be in Tuscaloosa on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012 will have an opportunity to participate in a local National Championship Service Project. Volunteers will work from 9-11 a.m. with check-in beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Ferguson Center Plaza on the UA campus. Service opportunities will include tornado debris removal and volunteering in area schools. Students should pre-register online at www.volunteer.ua.edu by clicking on the Allstate BCS National Championship Service Project icon.
UA sponsors of the two service projects include the Community Service Center, the Black Student Union, Ferguson Center, Housing and Residential Communities, the Student Government Association and the UA National Alumni Association.
