Interim Term at UA Takes Creative Approach to Learning

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Interim Program, May 9-27, offers students the chance to enroll in classes offering creative and innovative learning experiences.

During the academic short term, classes range from the fine arts to sport management to the more traditional business, science and humanities courses.

More than 100 courses will be taught during the 2011 Interim Term, including:

New Venture Development, a management course taught by Dr. Craig Armstrong, carmstro@cba.ua.edu, 205/348-6183, weekdays from 9 a.m.-noon, that introduces students to the fundamentals of starting and running their own businesses.

Trends & Issues in Sport Management, taught by Dr. Ken Wright in the College of Human Environmental Sciences, kwright@bama.ua.edu, 205/348-4705, is a study/travel course that takes students to the U.S. Olympic Committee National Headquarters to interact with the nation’s sport managers and research and complete pre-event tasks for the 2011 Warrior Games, to be held May 16-21.

Emergency Room Nursing, taught by Dr. Angela Collins, acollins@ua.edu, 205/348-2707, professor in the Capstone College of Nursing, focuses on urgent interventions in actual and potential health problems of adults.

Tap Dance, taught by Stacy Alley, assistant professor of musical theatre dance, salley@as.ua.edu, 205/348-6247, weekdays from 9 a.m.-noon, introduces beginning/intermediate students to tap dance language, style and  proper technique.

Handmade Sounds: Electronic Music History in Theory and Practice, a New College course taught by Dr. Andrew Dewar, adewar@ua.edu, 205/348-9928, Monday-Thursday from 1-4:30 p.m., allows students to build an electronic orchestra from scratch while also exploring the history of electronic music.
