The University of Alabama’s 2010-2011 Celebrity Series will dazzle audiences with internationally acclaimed stars ranging from soloists from the Russian National Orchestra to an award-winning bluegrass band.
The University of Alabama’s College of Arts and Sciences will present an exhibit of works from UA’s Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art, “Branching Out: Surrounding the Spiral Group,” in the art gallery of the UA Ferguson Center Sept. 7-30.
Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia and a University of Alabama alumnus, will launch the Liberty and Power Lecture Series at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the Ferguson Center Auditorium.
Kansas, the rock band known for such hits as “Carry on Wayward Son” and “Dust in the Wind,” will perform with The University of Alabama’s Huxford Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, and Friday, Sept. 10, in the Concert Hall of Moody Music Building.
The University of Alabama will welcome incoming freshmen and transfer students with a movie night, community service event, pool party and a shopping trip to Target as part of the Week of Welcome Friday, Aug. 13-Thursday, Aug. 19.

Recent figures from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate that people of Asian origin in Alabama have a strong entrepreneurial spirit in the state, according to Annette Watters, manager of the State Data Center at The University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Commerce.
