UA’s Annual Fall Social Work Conference to be Held in Montgomery Aug. 27-28

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama School of Social Work will host its eighth annual Fall Social Work Conference Aug. 27 and 28 at the Renaissance Hotel and Spa Conference Center in Montgomery.

The two-day conference, “Achieving Balance: Bridging Child Welfare Practice and Research,” will have speakers and presentations on programs and practices for all aspects of family life.

The conference’s keynote speaker will be Dr. Dennis Saleebey, professor emeritus of social welfare at the University of Kansas. One of his primary interests has been the development of a more strengths-based approach to social work practice. For the past 20 years, Saleebey has been involved in numerous community building and community outreach projects in Fort Worth, Texas; Kansas City, Missouri; and Kansas City, Kansas. He is the author and editor of the fifth edition of “The Strengths Perspective in Social Work Practice” (2008) and “The Strengths Perspective: Putting Possibility and Hope to Work in Practice” in Sowers, Dulmus and White’s Comprehensive Handbook of Social Work and Social Welfare (2008).

One day is $75 and the full conference (2 days) is $100. After August 7th, the cost will be $120. Social Work CEU contact hours will be awarded at the end of each workshop.
