ANNOUNCEMENTS

Proactive flu prevention behavior. The Alabama Department of Public Health is actively monitoring the outbreak of probable cases of the H1N1 virus (swine flu) in Alabama. To date, no cases are known to have occurred in Tuscaloosa; however, UA is prepared to take action, if needed. All events and activities, including exams and commencement ceremonies, will take place as scheduled on the UA campus.

If you have flu-like symptoms or think you may have been exposed to swine flu, please seek medical attention. The Russell Student Health Center provides the following reminders on basic infection control measures for any virus:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners also are effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Clean and sterilize contaminated surfaces.

For more information on swine flu, visit www.prepare.ua.edu.
