Thoroughly Spectacular ‘Millie’ Sings, Dances up a Storm At UA Theatre

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —  The University of Alabama’s department of theatre and dance presents the musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie” Tuesday, April 21 to Sunday, April 26, in the Gallaway Theatre on Stadium Drive in the UA Theatre District. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and  2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

“Thoroughly Modern Millie” takes us back to 1922, when women were bobbing their hair, painting their lips and pencil-lining their brows. Millie plans to be the most modern of all. New to the Big Apple, she sets out in a crazed adventure in search of love. But love isn’t the only thing in the air.

The maniacal proprietor of the Hotel Priscilla has a twisted plan for Millie and the other residents. How can Millie, a millionaire jazz singer and an innocent waif save the women of New York from this criminal “mastermind”? The musical, directed by UA faculty member Ed Williams, features 14 different sets designed by faculty member Andy Fitch.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for faculty, staff and seniors, and $10 for students. Phone the box office at 205/348-3400, go to www.crimsonartstickets.com, or visit the box office from noon to 5 p.m. Monday- Friday in Rowand-Johnson Hall to buy tickets.
