UA Book Club to Discuss ‘Water for Elephants’

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The EveryWoman Book Club, sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center at The University of Alabama, will meet on Thursday, July 24 at noon at The Globe Restaurant to discuss the book “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen.

“Water for Elephants” is a New York Times #1 Best Seller and winner of the 2007 Book Sense Book of the Year Award.

Entertainment Weekly described the book as having “a ringmaster’s crowd-pleasing pace.” Other books by Gruen include “Riding Lessons” and “Flying Changes.”

In “Water for Elephants,” 90-year-old Jacob Jankowski recounts his life and experiences with the Benzini Brother’s Circus during the Depression. The author intersperses Jacob’s memories with his present day life in a nursing home as he anticipates seeing a circus that has arrived in town.

All members of the community and campus are welcome to attend the EveryWoman Book Club. The Globe Restaurant is located in downtown historic Northport.
