Community members and students are encouraged to bring a book found on the official children’s book list to help continue the fight for Alabama rural schools.

On Thursday, April 19 the annual Profiles in Service award ceremony will bring the week to a close with a cookout at the Ferguson Plaza at 6 p.m. Campus organizations, as well as individuals, will be recognized for their exemplary dedication to volunteer service throughout the school year.

National Volunteer Week was established in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order establishing an annual celebration of volunteer service. Every president since then has signed a proclamation promoting the week.
