Media will have an opportunity to interview nationally known hip-hop violinist and composer Daniel Bernard Roumain and watch a rehearsal for Tuesday’s premiere of Roumain’s original composition commemorating the heroism of the desegregation of The University of Alabama at a media availability beginning at 1 p.m., Monday, April 9 at the Moody Music Building.
UA commissioned the piece by Roumain. The fifth in a series of compositions Roumain has written commemorating key figures in the Civil Rights Movement, the piece will be performed for the first time Tuesday, April 10 by Roumain, guest artists and UA’s Huxford Symphony Orchestra. The multi-media presentation will also feature an original video.
Roumain, Dr. Hank Lazer, associate provost and a leader in UA’s Creative Campus Initiative, and students involved with the project will be available to meet with media from 1-2 p.m. Monday. Media may stay for a rehearsal beginning at 2 p.m.
