Talk, Book Signing by Wallace Wade Author Set for Oct. 7 on UA Campus

wadeTUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Lewis Bowling, instructor of physical education at Duke University and North Carolina Central University, will be on The University of Alabama campus Saturday, Oct. 7 to promote his new book, “Wallace Wade: Championship Years at Alabama and Duke.”

Bowling will give a talk on Wade and sign books at the Bryant Museum at 11 a.m. He will also sign books from 2-5 p.m., at the Supe Store Tent on the Quad.

This biography chronicles Wallace Wade’s life in football, his participation in two world wars, and his time as commissioner of the Southern Conference.

One of the greatest college football coaches in the history of the game, Wade won three national championships at Alabama and took Duke to two Rose Bowls. His Alabama team won what is considered to be the most important victory in the history of Southern football, when they defeated Washington in the 1926 Rose Bowl. He is also credited with bringing big-time college football to the state of North Carolina with his powerhouse Duke teams of the 1930s and 1940s.
