UA Capstone Engineering Society Announces New National Chair

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Capstone Engineering Society of The University of Alabama College of Engineering recently announced Lamar Faulkner has assumed the role of national chair.

During his two-year term as national chair, Faulkner will preside over all CES board meetings, oversee all activities and responsibilities of the board, and serve on the committee that elects new board members.

Faulkner, who received a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from UA’s College of Engineering in 1964, is director of the safety, health and environmental division of CEREX Advanced Fibers, L.P. Faulkner is a Certified Safety Professional. In 1995, he was named one of UA’s Distinguished Engineering Fellows. Faulkner resides in Milton, Fla.

The Capstone Engineering Society, established in 1972, is the alumni society of the College of Engineering. The CES is dedicated to maintaining relationships and sharing resources with UA engineering alumni to ensure that the College is able to provide UA engineering and computer science students with a superior educational experience.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became the first university in the state to offer engineering classes and was one of the first five in the nation to do so. Today, the College of Engineering has about 1,800 students and more than 95 faculty. It has been fully accredited since accreditation standards were implemented in the 1930s.
