Cal Bedient Welcomed by UA’s Bankhead Visiting Writers Series

Tuscaloosa, Ala. – The University of Alabama’s Bankhead Visiting Writers Series welcomes Cal Bedient to campus for a reading from his latest work Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in 205 Smith Hall.

Prior to the reading, Bedient will hold a question and answer discussion session at noon in 301 Morgan Hall. Both events are free and open to the public.

Bedient is a widely published poet and critic. His published books of criticism include, “He Do the Police in Different Voices: The Waste Land and its Protagonist” and “Eight Contemporary Poets,” nominated for the National Book Award.

He has published two books of poetry, “The Violence of the Morning” and “Candy Necklace,” and his poems have appeared in Antioch Review, Boston Preview, Canary, Denver Quarterly, and Ploughshares, among other magazines.

Bedient is co-editor of the New California Poetry Series and of the poetry magazine, VOLT. He is professor of English at the University of California, Los Angeles.
