UA Honors Faculty, Students and Residents at Excellence in Community Engagement Awards Luncheon
The UA Council on Community-Based Partnerships will honor leaders in community engagement at the ninth annual Excellence in Community Engagement awards luncheon Friday, April 17, at the Bryant Conference Center. The program begins at 10 a.m. with research poster presentations, and the awards program starts at 11:30. The council also will celebrate UA’s 2015 Carnegie recognition as an engaged institution and award the first Zachary Dodson Memorial Scholarship.
UA Ceremony to Mark Arbor Day
The University of Alabama grounds department will celebrate Arbor Day, Friday, April 24, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on the north side of Woods Hall. The ceremony will be at the new location of a 25-year-old Japanese maple tree that the grounds department moved from the Peter Bryce campus in January.
Sleep Out Event to Educate UA Students About Homelessness
The Impacting Poverty Team for The University of Alabama Center for Sustainable Service and Volunteerism will hold its annual Sleep Out on the Quad event from 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, until 6 a.m. Thursday, April 23, on the soccer fields near the Student Recreation Center.
UA’s History Comes to Life during Guided Tour
The Alabama Museum of Natural History and the Gorgas House Museum hosts its first Living History Tour April 25. Through guided tours, visitors will learn from fascinating figures who have earned their spot in Alabama’s history, including the Gorgas family.
Cramer, Maddox to Speak at Child Maltreatment Conference on UA Campus
Dr. Debra Nelson-Gardell is an organizer of “A Blue Ribbon Event: Leading the Way in Protecting our Children – An Alabama Legacy of Innovation and Leadership,” a mini-conference to be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon on April 20 at the Child Development Research Center on The University of Alabama campus.
UA’s Arty Party to Benefit Theatre Program with ‘Cast Party’
The 11th annual Arty Party fundraiser will be held Friday, April 17 at 6 p.m. at The Pavilion at Cypress Inn. All proceeds will benefit theatre scholarships in UA’s department of theatre and dance.
Entrepreneurs Compete at UA’s April 10 AIME Day
Nineteen entrepreneurial teams, composed of University of Alabama faculty and students, will compete for approximately $100,000 in start-up funding and in-kind services Friday during UA’s annual AIME Day.
