Phylogeneticist to Discuss Microscopic Organisms in UA’s ALLELE Series

Dr. Casey Dunn, an associate professor at Brown University and a pioneer in the study of the tree of life, or phylogenetics, will give the next installment of the Alabama Lectures on Life’s Evolution, or ALLELE, series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30, in the North Lawn Hall Auditorium on The University of Alabama campus.

The University of Alabama’s history department is hosting a daylong conference Monday, March 27, that will highlight the transnational connections between the U.S. South and Latin America in the 19th century. The conference is titled “Dreams of Dominion: The U.S. South and Latin America.”

Now, five decades later, UA’s department of religious studies is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a showcase of its accomplishments by students, graduates and faculty.

“A lot of units would invite people from outside to talk, as part of these celebrations, but we reasoned that the strength of our department is its current students, past students and our faculty,” McCutcheon said. “So our logic is we wanted to highlight those three groups.”
