Members of a national initiative designed to reduce administrative burdens associated with federal research grants and contracts elected a University of Alabama administrator as its chair in results announced last week.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama will award some 1,703 degrees during spring commencement Saturday, Aug. 2, on campus. With this graduating class, UA will have awarded more than 240,000 degrees since its founding in 1831 as the state’s first public university. The University of Alabama’s Delta Mu chapter of the Delta Delta Delta national sorority has been recognized as this year’s top fundraiser for Tri Delta’s philanthropic partner, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. During the 2013-2014 fundraising campaign, Delta Mu raised $204,414.79 for St. Jude, making it the first chapter to donate more than $200,000 in a single year. The contribution was part of some $6.1 million raised this year by Tri Delta chapters nationwide.
More than 180 University of Alabama students during the summer 2014 semester are receiving a hands-on educational experience at more than 60 companies and organizations through UA’s Cooperative Education Program. In the Cooperative Education Program, students alternate periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. This program offers work related to the academic major or career interests of each student. The experience enhances the students’ employment prospects after graduation.
Naomi Powell was named director of The University of Alabama Cooperative Education and Professional Practice Program.
University of Alabama President Judy Bonner has named Dr. Steven Hood as interim vice president for student affairs.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A total of 8,388 students enrolled during the 2014 spring semester at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean’s List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the President’s List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s). The UA Dean’s and President’s List recognizes full-time undergraduate students.
The Capstone International Academic Programs at The University of Alabama recently received recognition for excellence by CISabroad at the NAFSA: Association of International Educators conference in San Diego.
Dr. Mark Nelson has been named dean of the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama. Nelson has served as vice president for student affairs and vice provost for academic affairs at UA since 2008 and has been a member of the College of Communication and Information Sciences’ faculty for more than 20 years.
