Football Players Challenge UA Student Ambassadors in Fifth Annual Croquet Bowl April 8

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Alabama football players will go face-to-face with student Ambassadors from UA’s College of Arts and Sciences in the fifth annual Croquet Bowl Saturday, April 8 from 10-noon on the Quad behind Denny Chimes.

The Croquet Bowl will raise donations for the United Way of West Alabama. Sponsorships include a $100 donation to United Way for sponsoring a College of Arts and Sciences student Ambassador, a $75 donation for sponsoring a UA football player, $50 to United Way for a hostess, $25 to sponsor a wicket, and a $25 donation to sponsor a ball.

Crimson Tide football players will team with hostesses to compete against College of Arts and Sciences student Ambassadors in order to win the Croquet Bowl trophy.

University of Alabama Head Football Coach Mike Shula and other members from the Crimson Tide coaching staff will be there to coach the football players and hostesses. Dean Olin, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, will lead the Ambassador’s team.

“Both teams are tied with two wins each, so this years’ Bowl will be the ultimate tie-breaker. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend this free event. Autographs from team members will be available at the conclusion of the event,” said Susan Halliday, manager of special events and endowment accounts for the College of Arts and Sciences.

A representative from the United Way will serve as a referee for the Croquet Bowl which will be played according to United States Croquet Association rules for Nine-Wicket Croquet. Three games will be played.
