UA to Host Student Film and Video Awards Showcase

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The fourth annual University of Alabama Student Film and Video Awards Showcase, sponsored by the UA telecommunication and film department, will be held on Wednesday, May 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bama Theater.

There will be a reception at 6:30 p.m.

The Showcase highlights outstanding video and film work produced by UA students throughout the year. Student documentary, narrative, experimental, commercial and music video work will be screened and awards will be given those five categories and a Best of Show award.

Judges participating in the Showcase include Rashidi Harper who has directed films, commercials and music videos including videos for Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dog and Brian McKnight; Sonali Gulati who has produced films that have screened at more than 100 film festivals worldwide (her latest documentary recently won the Director’s Choice Award at the Black Maria Film Festival); and, Celia Carey who has worked for the Discovery Channel, National Geographic and the BBC, currently managing the documentary unit of APT in Birmingham.

The emcee for the event is Butler Cain of WUAL Alabama Public Radio. A $1 admission will be charged at the door.
