TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Poet David St. John will give a reading Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the Bama Theatre at 7:30 p.m. as part of The University of Alabama Bankhead Visiting Writers Series.
David St. John teaches at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he is director of the doctoral program in literature and creative writing. He is the author of nine collections of poetry, most recently “The Face,” as well as a volume of essays, interviews and reviews entitled “Where the Angels Come Toward Us.” His first book, “Hush,” was selected by Jonathan Galassi to initiate Houghton Mifflin’s New Poets Series.
Over the years, St. John has been honored with fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts, the Rome Prize and an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the O. B. Hardison Prize from the Folger Shakespeare Library and a grant from the Ingram Merrill Foundation.
The reading is free and open to the public. A reception follows.
