President of Brookwood Pharmaceuticals to Speak With UA Students

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Dr. Arthur J. Tipton, chief executive officer and president of Brookwood Pharmaceuticals Inc., will speak with students at The University of Alabama Monday, April 2.

Tipton’s presentation continues the College of Engineering’s Dean’s Leadership Series: “So, You Want to be a CEO,” which brings prominent business leaders to speak with students at UA. Tipton’s lecture begins at 3 p.m. in Shelby Hall, room 150. It is open to the public.

Tipton held a variety of positions at Southern BioSystems and Durect Corp. after earning his doctorate in polymer science and engineering from the University of Massachusetts. He joined Southern Research in 2004 to lead the formation of a new company based on Southern Research’s pharmaceutical formulations business. Brookwood Pharmaceuticals was launched in January 2005 with Tipton as president and CEO.

Brookwood Pharmaceuticals applies its proprietary drug-delivery technologies to formulate and manufacture improved pharmaceutical products. The company holds more than 20 drug-delivery patents, and it has expertise and facilities for feasibility studies, formulation ad product analysis, scale up, clinical lot manufacturing, and production of final dosage forms. Clinical applications for Brookwood’s clients include diabetes, cancer, orthopedic, drug/alcohol addition, psychosis, ocular diseases and sun-induced conditions.

In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s fully accredited College of Engineering has about 1,900 students and nearly 100 faculty. In the last seven years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater scholars, Hollings scholars and Portz scholars.
