UA Discussion Focuses on Business Side of Patient-Centered Medical Home

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama College of Community Health Sciences will host a special event, “Better Care, Better Value: The Business Case for the Patient-Centered Medical Home,” July 25 at Hotel Capstone on UA’s campus.

The event is free of charge and open to the public.

The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a refreshment and dessert reception, followed by remarks at 7 p.m. from Dr. Paul Grundy, global director of Healthcare Transformation for IBM, and a panel discussion.

Panelists include: Grundy; Dr. Kathleen Bowen, associate medical director for BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama; Dr. Robert Moon, chief medical officer for Alabama Medicaid; and Dr. Melly Goodell, chair of the department of family medicine at MedStar Franklin Square in Baltimore, Maryland, a state that is three years into a Patient-Centered Medical Home pilot project.

Continuing Medical Education and Continuing Education Units for nursing and social work will be provided.

The event is part of a conference, also hosted by the College of Community Health Sciences July 25-26, that focuses on the Patient-Centered Medical Home and ways physicians and other health-care providers can incorporate this model of care into their medical practices.
