Alabama Public Radio at UA Announces Program Schedule Changes

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama Public Radio, which broadcasts from studios in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama, is adding new programs and expanding local news in a new programming line-up beginning Monday, Sept. 3.

“Alabama Public Radio exists for the benefit of all Alabamians,” said Elizabeth Brock, director of the Center for Public Television and Radio. “We take pride in our locally hosted music programming that runs the gamut from classical to jazz to blue grass and more, and we’re committed to enhancing our coverage of local, national and international news.”

APR is in the process of adding two new local hosts for NPR’s flagship programs “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered.” Alisa Beckwith, current host of “Evening Jazz,” will also join the award-winning news department. These additions will make it the largest local public radio news team in the state.

• “BBC World News,” daily at 1 a.m.
• “APR Presents,” Friday at 7 p.m.
• “The Splendid Table,” Saturday at noon
• “Travel with Rick Steves,” Saturday at 1 p.m.
• “Car Talk, repeat, Sunday at 10 a.m.
• “The Blues and Beyond,” Sunday at 11 p.m.

• “American Routes,” Friday at 10 p.m.
• “Fresh Air,” Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
• “This American Life,” Saturday at 3 p.m.
• “Says You,” Sunday at 11 a.m.
• “A Prairie Home Companion, repeat, Sunday at noon
• “From the Top,” Sunday at 5 p.m.
• “Getting Sentimental Over You,” Sunday at 6 p.m.
• “Jugs, Jukes and Jazz,” Sunday at 9 p.m.

The Center for Public Television and Radio is housed in the College of Communication and Information Sciences, among the largest and most prestigious communication colleges in the country, having graduated more than 12,000 students and ranking among the top institutions in the country in the number of doctorates awarded. Communication graduates have earned four of the six Pulitzer Prizes awarded to UA alumni.
