Motivational Coach Dr. Winifred Bragg to Speak at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Winifred Bragg, author of the upcoming book “Anatomy of Success” and a University of Alabama alumna, will present a lecture, “How to Turn A Missed Opportunity into Success,” Thursday, Oct. 24, at 5:30 p.m. in room 205 of Smith Hall on the UA campus.

During her lecture, Bragg will discuss her path to becoming a physician and the obstacles she faced on her journey. She will focus on how to take missed opportunities and turn them into launching pads for success.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Bragg’s talk, sponsored by UA’s College of Arts and Sciences, is part of “Through the Doors,” a year-long series of activities and events commemorating the 50th anniversary of the desegregation of The University of Alabama and honoring the courage and dedication of the two African-American students who enrolled in the University on June 11, 1963, as well as the University’s ongoing commitment to progress.

Bragg received her bachelor’s degree in microbiology from UA and continued her education at Meharry Medical College and the University of Michigan. She also held internships at the Office of the United States Surgeon General, Washington, D.C., and at Baptist Medical Centers in Birmingham.

Bragg serves as medical director of the Spine and Orthopedic Pain Center in Norfolk, Va., and she is an adjunct faculty member at Old Dominion University in the School of Community Health Professions and Physical Therapy.  Her medical board certifications include special qualifications in pain medicine from the American Board of Medical Specialties; diplomate, American Board of Pain Medicine; and diplomate, American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

In addition to her medical career, Bragg is a nationally-known speaker on motivation and pain management. Her talks on the topics of success and leadership have received national attention. She has spoken at the United States Capitol on “Believe in Yourself” and has appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX TV networks and in Redbook, Woman’s World and Self magazines.

She has served on numerous boards including SunTrust Bank’s South Hampton Roads Regional Advisory Board, the Examination Council of the American Board of Pain Medicine, the Rotary Club of Hampton Roads, Va. and on UA’s College of Arts and Sciences Leadership Board.

While at UA, Bragg will also meet with faculty and students in the biological sciences department.
