TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Lori K. Holleran Steiker, associate professor of social work at the University of Texas at Austin, will discus substance abuse issues in social work during a presentation at The University of Alabama’s School of Social Work Colloquium Series Monday.

Steiker will present “Navigating Adolescent Substance Abuse: Innovative, Evidence-Based Prevention & Intervention,” at noon Monday, Nov. 5 in 104 Little Hall.
The lecture is part of the School of Social Work’s Colloquium Series that brings speakers to campus to share expertise with UA faculty, staff, students and guests.
Steiker has particular expertise in the intersection of culture and prevention efforts. She has published extensively on substance abuse prevention interventions and cultural adaptation.
Presently, she is expanding her research into the areas of dissonance-based substance abuse interventions, the bridge between prevention and treatment, decisional balance dialogues with youth and addiction recovery.
Administratively, she was the assistant dean for undergraduates in the School of Social Work at UT from 2009-2012, and she serves in an advisory role for the UT Center for Students in Recovery.
The lecture is free and open to the University community and the general public. Continuing Education Units will be available.
