West Alabama Real Estate Summit Coming to UA Aug. 24

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Alabama Center for Real Estate, part of the Culverhouse College of Commerce at The University of Alabama, will host a West Alabama Real Estate Summit Friday, Aug. 24, at the Bryant Conference Center.

The summit includes a residential real estate forum in the morning and a commercial real estate forum in the afternoon. Both forums are approved for three hours of continuing education.The detailed agenda, speaker bios, general information and online registration can be found at www.acresummit.ua.edu.

Attendees can attend the entire day or only the forum of interest to them.

“The summit was designed to provide flexibility for participants,” said Grayson Glaze, executive director of the Alabama Center for Real Estate, known as ACRE. “While we recommend taking in the entire day of market-driven knowledge and expert commentary, we also understand the need to provide convenient options for today’s business and real estate professional.”

The morning residential forum will start with a networking breakfast. Sessions include a Tuscaloosa residential market review and a detailed housing needs analysis and five-year forecast, and it will conclude with a panel of experts sharing future trends in valuation, finance, new construction, and land use and development.

The afternoon commercial forum begins with lunch and a “State of the Tuscaloosa Recovery” keynote address by Mayor Walt Maddox. Sessions include a Tuscaloosa Economic Outlook by UA’s Center for Business and Economic Research, Tuscaloosa commercial real estate market review by product type (office, retail, multi-family, industrial), and an expert panel focused on new development, zoning and planning.

The afternoon concludes with Jim Page, president and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, leading a panel of experts on the latest project incentives and financing.

The Summit is designed for real estate professionals and affiliates, business owners, public officials and private investors as well as the general public, Glaze said.

The itinerary includes the Third Annual Tuscaloosa Real Estate Networking and Business Development Reception the evening prior to the event, Thursday, Aug. 23, from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at the new Tuscaloosa River Market along the Black Warrior River. Live entertainment, complimentary light appetizers and beverages will be available.

The Summit host is Westervelt Communities, and 2012 title sponsors include the Tuscaloosa Association of REALTORS, Home Builders Association of Tuscaloosa, Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama, City of Tuscaloosa, Rumsey Environmental, Walker Associates, Capstone Bank, The Builder’s Group of West Alabama and The Tuscaloosa News.
