UA’s Beat Auburn Beat Hunger Food Fight Moves into Final Weeks

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Community Service Center’s 2010 Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive competition enters its final weeks with opportunities for contributions to be made across campus.

Food donations can be made at the UA women’s basketball games against Central Arkansas on Nov. 14, and against North Carolina State on Nov. 17. Canned food will also be collected on Nov. 15 when the men’s basketball team plays Troy University.

In addition, the UA department of theatre and dance will host “Cabaret for Cans” at Morgan Auditorium on Nov. 22 to benefit BABH. Admission to the event will be $3 or three cans of food.

BABH is an annual food drive that strikes up a healthy competition between UA and Auburn University to see who can collect the most food in the weeks before the Iron Bowl.  All UA food donations benefit the West Alabama Food Bank, which serves nine counties.

Monetary donations are accepted at Bama Dining locations and online at http://volunteer.ua.edu/babh/donate.htm. To make $10 donations, text “BAMA” to 27722.

Non-perishable food collection barrels are placed at locations both on UA’s campus and around Tuscaloosa.

The 2010 competition between the Iron Bowl rivals kicked off Oct. 11 and will come to a close Nov. 22. UA has collected more nonperishable food items than Auburn for the last three years to win the event.
