Nobel Nominee to Speak at UA, Present Workshops on Issues of Justice

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Mandy Carter, Nobel Peace Prize nominee and founding member of the National Black Justice Coalition, will be on The University of Alabama campus Monday, Oct. 11, to give a guest lecture and to present student workshops.

In the lecture, Carter will discuss “Justice or Just Us?” at 7 p.m. Monday in 30 Alston.

Carter will be presenting workshops all day on Monday in 301 Ferguson, open to all who would like to attend, and she will be visiting classes on Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Carter, of North Carolina, is one of the leading African-American lesbian activists in the country. She has been involved in social, racial and justice organizations since 1968.

Committed to multi-racial, multi-issue organizing, Carter participated in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s Poor People’s Campaign in 1968 and is also a founder of Southerners On New Ground.
