TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Poet Maurice Manning will read from his work at the second annual Black Warrior Review Benefit Reading, in conjunction with the Bankhead Visiting Writers Series, on Thursday, April 26, at The University of Alabama.
The benefit reading will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Allen Bales Theater on the UA campus. Donations accepted at the door will benefit the Black Warrior Review, the University’s nationally respected literary magazine. Suggested donations are $3 for students and $5 for the general public.
Manning’s first collection of poems, “Lawrence Booth’s Book of Visions,” was chosen by W.S. Merwin as the winner of the 2000 Yale Series for Younger Poets competition. The book will be published this month by the Yale University Press.
Manning received his master of fine arts degree in creative writing from UA in 1999 and his master’s in English from the University of Kentucky in 1996. Manning is currently assistant professor of English at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.
The Bankhead Visiting Writers Series is made possible by an endowment from the Bankhead Foundation, UA’s creative writing program, the department of English, and the College of Arts and Sciences.
