TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s Wind Ensemble will host composer David Maslanka for a residency Sunday, April 18 to Tuesday, April 20 in UA’s School of Music.
The residency culminates in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, in the Concert Hall at Moody Music Building. The concert is free and open to the public.
Featured works will be Maslanka’s “Eternal Garden: Four Songs for Clarinet and Piano,” with Dr. Osiris Molina, UA assistant professor of clarinet; “Morning Star;” and the Symphony No. 7.
Maslanka’s works for winds and percussion include “A Child’s Garden of Dreams,” for symphonic wind ensemble; “Concerto for Piano, Winds and Percussion;” and two wind quintets.
He has served on the faculties of the State University of New York at Geneseo, Sarah Lawrence College, New York University and Kingsborough College of the City University of New York. He now lives in Missoula, Mont.
The School of Music is part of UA’s College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest liberal arts college in the state. Students from the College have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships and memberships on the USA Today Academic All American Teams.
