TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama’s department of theatre and dance presents the female version of Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple” Tuesday, April 15, through Sunday, April 20, at the Allen Bales Theatre in Rowand-Johnson Hall on UA’s campus.
Simon himself wrote this adaptation of his classic tale of mismatched roommates. Oscar and Felix are now Olive and Florence. After separating from her husband, Florence moves into Olive’s home, but the two begin to clash immediately as Florence dedicates herself to obsessive cleaning while Olive enjoys the slovenly life of a single female.
To see the comedy that stems from this unlikely pairing, you will need to arrive at the Allen Bales Theatre one hour before show time. Although the show is sold out, the department will sell standby tickets beginning one hour before each performance. Standby patrons will be seated if the original ticket holders do not claim their seats by curtain. Standby patrons who cannot be seated will be refunded the cost of admission.
“The Odd Couple (Female Version)” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, through Saturday, April 19, with 2 p.m. performances Saturday and Sunday, April 19-20. The Allen Bales Theatre is on Stadium Drive on the UA campus. Tickets are $6 ($5 plus $1 service charge). Tickets can be bought at the box office noon to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday in Rowand-Johnson Hall, by visiting www.crimsonartstickets.com, or by phoning 205/348-3400.
Note on parking: To make room for the Crimson Ride Transit System, parking is no longer allowed on Colonial Drive, Stadium Drive or Marr’s Spring Road. Parking is still available, however, on the side and rear of our theatre building. Parking is also available in the ten Hoor Parking Deck No. 1 (entrance on Stadium Drive), at no charge. The deck is next door to the theatre at Stadium Drive and Marr’s Spring Road.
The theatre & dance department is part of UA’s College of Arts and Sciences, the University’s largest division and the largest liberal arts college in the state. Students from the College have won numerous national awards including Rhodes Scholarships, Goldwater Scholarships and memberships on the USA Today Academic All American Team.
