TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama’s collegiate license tag will be sporting a new look this month with the issue of a new design for 2009.
Funds raised through the statewide program are used for scholarships for graduate and undergraduate students.
More than 1,200 UA undergraduate students received scholarships through the license tag program this year, and 21 graduate students received fellowships.
UA’s National Alumni Association raised a total of some $3 million through the car tag program in the 2007-2008 fiscal year – the most of any university in the state. Auburn came in second with some $2.43 million. Statewide, collegiate tags raised a total of some $7 million for 26 colleges and universities in that fiscal year.
“The license tag program is an excellent way to contribute to scholarships while showing your allegiance to the University,” said Pat Whetstone, director of alumni affairs at UA. “We are very glad that this worthwhile program continues to grow every year, and we are grateful to our alumni, friends and fans for their outstanding support,” he added.
UA collegiate license tags are available at local county license offices. Both numbered tags and personalized tags are available; the cost of either one is $50 above the normal tag cost. Collegiate license tags may be purchased at any time, regardless of the individual’s tag renewal month.
